HLAC - Lifelong Wellness Application Paper
YOGA I
1. What did you learn about “lifelong wellness” from taking this activity class?
I learned how to better care for my body. While taking this yoga class, I realized I couldn’t stretch as much as I used to. After every session, I was sore for days! It felt great, but at the same time, I was realizing how out of shape I really was. I learned how to move my body in ways I did not know existed!
2. How would you apply this information to your life?
The number one thing in this class that seemed to be a big deal was to breath. You had us breath to stretch, breath to release all the stress of the day, breath to feel your muscles and everything else in your body function. I think it really works. I’m hoping that I can keep the things I learned in this class in mind because I feel like it really taught me to just… let it go. Also, in the past I have meditated daily and I love the sense of calm and centeredness that comes with that. I have learned a lot more about different ways to work with my body and my mind. I’m absolutely sure that I will continue to practice yoga in my daily life.
3. What is your intention to continue to exercise in your life and why?
I want to continue exercising because I’ve noticed a change in my body since summer. Before school started in the spring, I was jogging every morning at 6 am. I could run for a long amount of time before actually getting tired. As fall came along, I stopped for some reason. I have a hard time catching my breath after going up a long flight of stairs. My jeans don’t fit quite as nice as they used to and I just don’t feel as great as I did in the summer. Another reason I want to keep up with working out is so I can maintain my health. Diabetes runs in my family and the last thing I need to worry about is insulin shots and low blood sugar.
4. General ideas for improving this course?
I really enjoyed this class, I would not change much. This class was my first experience with yoga, and it taught me an appreciation for the practice. I liked the style of yoga we learned and how it made me feel and think after class. I never left yoga without this feeling of inner peace and satisfaction. I liked that the class was laid back and relaxing. Thanks to this class, I will definitely continue my practice of yoga into the far future. I liked the music for yoga, I like the positions, I constantly found myself being challenged and then overcoming those challenges.
