Belly Dancing Basics HLAC 1040 Summer 2013
Lifelong Wellness Application
1. What did you learn about lifelong wellness from taking this activity class?
First thing I learned is how to manage my stress. This is an accelerated semester in which I have been under so much pressure due to the necessary work, and this class help me how to relieve the effects of this. The special movements and the gracious and fun of the techniques really did make a difference in my mood and help me to feel more relaxed. I also learned to take good care of my body. Having a better posture can really help you in the long run. It not only help to stay fit, but help me to know more about my body, the way it moves and how flexible it can be. I am right due to the practice of every technique more flexible and I feel more light. This class in particular hasn't been too physically challenging, but has taught me the beauty of belly dancing. I love dancing so, I learned a new and beautiful new one I can practice any time.
2. How would you apply this information to your life?
I love dancing so I definitely practice the movements and techniques every time I go dancing. I usually dance latin rhythms and we use a lot the hip and also the isolation of some parts of the body so, this will be a good additive to my dancing routine and steps. I also, enjoy doing it in the privacy in my home and it truly has helped my health to progress over the short time I've been learning the movements. Belly dancing is a very inspirational dance form and I can honestly see myself doing it for years to come. This course was absolutely wonderful.
3. What is your intention to continue to exercise in life and why?
I have been taking some classes in which I truly learned the importance of exercising. The benefit of it are not just physical but, spiritual and emotional. I did already added a exercise routine to my life which I planned to continue through the years for long term results. Also, as I said before I really enjoy this kind of dancing genre so, I would love to practice it outside of the campus as well. I can honestly say it’s a wonderful source of fitness because of the overall use of your body that comes with learning this style. It highlights all sections of the body, focusing on each one and helps to strengthen your body as a whole.

Reflection
I am going to try to tell my experience in my first belly dance class. I do not feel anymore as the ugly or shy girl, with arms stretched to the ground. I learned this by trying to keep my arms up gracefully in the air and simultaneously soft looking.
This was a fast moving class, where steps were learned in sequence and pretty much we were able to learned in a good pace. We did it by leaps and bounds. The teacher was patient and the explanations were precise and detailed so, we could not confused or misunderstand any instruction.
Every time class by class was a delight for me. I actually was waiting for the friday to come and joined very excited to learn a new step. I was in the first time very interest in this class because as I said I love dancing, this class was one I really wanted to try. Every class I felt how my body was feeling more flexible every time and I also, discovered that my body was able to move in different ways I did not have any idea.
There was a special class I really enjoy a lot when all of us made a circle clapping and doing the special belly dance noise with the tongue , obviously covering the mouth. I had a good time that time because it remind me of a soup-opera I would watch not so long time ago named "El Clon". It is a soup opera where the main filming place and where all the scenes are developed is Marruecos. In that time I really felt like one of those actresses in the soup opera.
As an overall this first experience was a very good one in which I was able learned new exciting things and also, get physical and, emotional benefits that I will carry with me for a long time. Also I had a really good time that I really wish It would be a Belly Dance II class to continue learning!
